Adam Ondra 9a onsight, Water World at Osp in Slovenia
Last Sunday in the enormous cave at Osp in Slovenia Adam Ondra carried out "one of my proudest achievements", namely the onsight ascent of 9a Water World. The route is a huge, ultra-overhanging journey across the stalactites on the left side of the cave, established in 2014 by Klemen Bečan. Ondra sent the route in the purest of styles in absolutely perfect conditions. The 29-year-old made no mistakes on the bouldery start, then kepot it together with his usual precision before clipping the anchor after a grueling 50m battle.
The world's first 9a onsight was carried by Alexander Megos in 2013, and in the almost 10 years since that historic moment only the German and Ondra have managed to onsight 9a. As the Czech climber points out, his recent onsight is up there among his best performances ever. Considering he established the world's first 9c, and made the first (and so far only) 9a+ flash, his o/s of Water World is clearly something special.
