Tre Cime di Lavaredo
The Tre Cime di Lavaredo exert an irresistible charm: rising powerfully, they dominate all, drawing the eye forever upwards. Getting close to them in winter, on itineraries such as this one, is an unforgettable experience. With a bit of training and knowledge of the mountain environment in winter, this route is accessible to all.
From Misurina (from Cortina take the SS48 to P.sso Tre Croci and continue along the SS48b) drive to the lake “Lago d'Antorno” and park here.
AccessFrom the lake take the motor-sled taxi service up to Rif. Auronzo 2320m.
ItineraryFrom Rif. Auronzo (2320m), located immediately beneath the imposing south faces of the Tre Cime, descend westwards and then traverse across the easy plateau, trying to lose height where the terrain almost flattens out completely. Continue NW to reach Col di Medo at 2324m. The view is superb, taking in both the Croda Rossa d'Ampezzo and the cold north faces of the Tre Cime. The descent from the col points decidedly southwards towards a large dip, which then leads to Malga di Rinbianco. The first part of this descent, up to barracks built during the First World War, is by no means difficult. The second section is much steeper and, keeping slightly left, descends through the forest of larch, pine and fir trees. It finishes on the track used earlier on in the day with the motor-sled. Walk along this to Malga di Rinbianco, famous for its homemade local dishes.
DescentFrom Malga di Rinbianco either return to the car park by motor-sled or on foot in about half an hour down to Lago d’Antorno.
