Col de Varda
This is a mid-grade round trip that starts from the foot of Col de Varda and offers enchanting views onto lake Misurina, the Cadini di Misurina, Marmarole, Sorapis and Monte Cristallo.
From Cortina reach Misurina and its famous lake via Passo Tre Croci (approx. 14 km).
AccessTake the chairlift "Col de Varda" to reach the refuge (2115m).
ItineraryStart from Rif. Col de Varda by walking down the piste and, after about 300m, take a small road left towards Rif. Città di Carpi. The view on offer here is truly spectacular: an immense sea of mountains dominated by the Cadini di Misurina immediately overhead, the uncontaminated Marmarole straight ahead, the majestic Sorapis to the right and, far on the horizon, Monte Cristallo.
The road continues to descend slowly to reach, just before rising again, a sign that indicates the obvious path that leads off right to Rif. Vandelli. Take this, downhill at first, to an old bathtub used as a fountain for animals in summer, then to a red fir tree. A small sign on this points to a path right to Misurina. Follow this without losing height to an opening with just a few trees. Walk past the characteristic, old tree trunk in the middle of this opening to then gain height rightwards before entering the woods once more. Having reached the shoulder the well-marked path no. 13 leads slowly back to Misurina and the parking lot at the start of the chairlift.
This is a round trip that starts and finishes in the Col de Varda parking lot.
GearNormal equipment for winter walking, snowshoes and poles.
DifficultyNo obvious danger. Watch out for the signs on the trees.
