Transcavallo 2023: Elena Nicolini - Martina Valmassoi and Matteo Eydallin - Alex Oberbacher win 40th edition

Transcavallo, the legendary Italian ski mountaineering competition that forms part of the prestigious La Grande Course circuit, proved spectacular last Saturday. The mountains the straddle the border between Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, the nigh perfect weather conditions, the 55 teams and 65 athletes in the individual event all made the historic 40th edition an unforgettable experience.

The long course with over 3000m altitude gain was dominated by Matteo Eydallin and Alex Oberbacher. The duo, fresh from the ISMF World Cup at Morgins, initially trailed Jakob Hermann and William Boffelli, but then took control in the second part of the race to cross the finish line at Col Indes (Tambre) after 3:31:19. Hermann and Boffelli placed second almost 5 minutes later, while third place went to Philip Goetsch and Luka Kovacic who stopped the clock after 3:51:05

In the women's event Martina Valmassoi and Elena Nicolini had no particular difficulties in calling the 40th edition their own, winning the race their race after 4:50:37. Martina De Silvestro and Stephanie Kroll placed second, ahead of Giorgia Felicetti and Katrin Bieler, third..

The individual event started an hour after the team event and was won by Alessandro Rossi and Cecilia De Filippo. Marco Salvadori and Linda Menardi placed second, while Alex Rigo and Linda Tomaselli completed the podium lineup.
