Brosse and Gignoux win XXI Transcavallo
On 10/01/2004 the Frenchmen Stephane Brosse and Pierre Gignoux won the first stage of the ski mountaineering World Cup 2004 at Tambre in the Italian Dolomites.
Last weekend the Frenchmen Stephane Brosse and Pierre Gignoux won the first stage of the ski mountaineering World Cup 2004 at Tambre in the Italian Dolomites. The duo set a record time of 2:07:36 at the 21st Transcavallo, beating last year's winners Manfred Reichegger and Dennis Brunod by just 7 seconds. The current European Champions and winners of the Trofeo Mezzalama 2003 Elmer Rico and Damien Parquet placed third. The women's event was won by the Swiss Cristina Favre and Catherine Mabillard in 2:53:56, ahead of the French Nathalie Bourillon and Veronique Lathuraz (2:56:32) and the Italians Astrid Renzler and Gretel Rogger Oberholen (2:59:00). Despite high winds and freezing conditions, 113 teams from 11 different countries competed in the well-organised event, which traced a 16 km line up steep faces and along thin crests, for a total height gain of 1900m and height difference of 3800m. .
