Rock & Walls 2015 Boulder Contest at Luogosanto in Sardinia
I've never been a great fan of street bouldering. It’s no coincidence therefore that I’ve only taken part on two occasions: the first ever Street Boulder contest to take place in Milan invented by dear friend Max Sacchi, and the beautiful KukkoBloc where I worked as a route setter.
I always thought of climbing on the walls of a city as something I’d do in the future, hopefully remote, when I lived in such a huge metropolis that crossing it to reach some rock would simply be impossible.
So you can well imagine what my thoughts were when my brother Filippo Manca - not in lineage but by choice - invited me along to Luogosanto in Sardinia’s Gallura region to see for myself the results of his intuition, powerful brushing and and absolute dedication.
But Gallura immediately changed my mood, as did Luogosanto and its people. Granite isn’t merely an integral part of the territory, it it the territory!
At Luogosanto granite flows out of the forests to create walls and buildings of rare beauty. Under the fingers of the "Street boulderers" it will maintain the soul and character of this land.
Granite has always acted as a protective barrier, as can be seen from nuraghe constructions, and nowadays it enables us to have fun and climb with childlike excitement.
This granite will expect climbers in the forests above Luogosanto the day after Street Boulder contest, in a new area where some lines and sectors are second to none and can easily rival eventhe most renowned European destinations.
So on the weekend of 9 and 10 May visit this beautiful land and make the most of the redevelopment of the area, carried out by the association Adventure Inside headed by Telemaco Murgia and the town council that will enable you to enjoy your love for bouldering and, more importantly, you’ll discover something completely new and, in a sense, of primitive beauty.
