Pol Roca Lopez adds Animalistic 8c Deep Water Solo to Mallorca

Deep Water Solo season is currently in full swing on Mallorca, where Spain’s Pol Roca Lopez has now made the first ascent of the one of the island’s hardest psicoblocs, the 8c Animalistic. Situated at Cala Mitjana, the line adds a direct start to Jernej Kruder’s Animal magnetism, an 8b+ in its own right which Lopez climbed in 2018.

The student has described the new creation as "the perfect line up the wall" and this is now his second addition to the wall, after establishing the 7c+ Should I stay or should I go in August this year.

A glance at Lopez’s climbing résumé is interesting and reveals that apart from this 8c DWS, he has bouldered up to 8C and, somewhat surprisingly, "only" redpointed sports climbs up to 8c. "I don't climb so much with rope" said the 24-year-old, who makes no secret about wishing to repeat the world’s reference psicobloc, Chris Sharma’s Es Pontas nearby.
