Jakob Schubert climbs Es Pontas psicobloc on Mallorca
After making the first repeat of Alasha just a few days ago, Austrian climber Jakob Schubert has also climbed Chris Sharma’s other king Mallorcan line, Es Pontas. The spectacular natural arch on the SE part of the island sports a huge dyno just below half-height that repulsed everyone except for the undisputed master of this type of climbing in 2006, and Slovenia’s Jernej Kruder (2016) and Germany’s Jan Hojer (2018).
While Alasha suits Schubert’s style of climbing perfectly and was sent in just four attempts, Es Pontas required a more concerted effort. The upper half contains some hard moves and just like his predecessors Schubert checked these out on toprope first; after sticking the crux dyno last Friday, the 30-year-old made no mistakes and quickly powered his way to the top.
