At just 25 years of age Federica Mingolla already has a number of big new routes to her name, from the Mont Blanc massif all the way to Greenland, and numerous difficult repeats throughout the Alps and in Yosemite. Her evolution as a climber from her early competition days to embracing the mountains in all its forms passed via the Orco Valley, where the eclectic mountain guide Adriano Trombetta indicated a possible direction she might wish to follow.

Trombetta tragically perished in an avalanche in 2017, but his teachings left a deep mark on Mingolla, just like the amazing granite rock faces scattered throughout the magical Orco valley. This beautiful portrait, called Un Nuovo Mattino - A new morning, directed by Matteo Pavana with additional footage taken by Marco Zanone, delves into Mingolla’s past and examines how she has evolved into one of the most world’s premier climbers.
