A new bouldering area in Sardinia: too good to be true. And this morning the bad news: Codoleddu has been banned by the landowners. Giorgio Tagliasacchi, one of the driving forces behind this gem, tells us how and why it happened.
"Yesterday at 15.00 I received a phone call. It was the chief of the Sinnai forestry Commission who told me the land owners of Codoleddu don't want to meet up and simply don't want us to do "our climbing". The chief hung up saying that he'd try to give us a hand and reopen discussion next autumn...
The Forestry Commission had been called by the land owner after having seen news and photos on the internet and had become somewhat "alarmed". This is understandable since what we do isn't as easy to understand as, say, hunting!
Anyway, after this call I was asked to go to the Commission where I explained what we were up to and that it was harmless. The chief thought we stood a chance and offered to mediate to clear things up with the owners and find a solution which would work well for everyone.
Yesterday though the phone call put an end to all this, to a beautiful area which I had spent a long time developing, had invested time and money in since I believed it was first class and has immense potential.
What remains is great bitterness which will take a long time to subside. Today our "community" is that one bit poorer."
