Simon Gietl from the South Tyrol, Italy, knows the Tre Cime di Lavaredo group like the back of his hand but he won’t be forgetting his long day out with Switzerland’s Nicolas Hojac in a hurry: Via Cassin and Spigolo Demuth on Cima Ovest, Via Comici - Dimai and Spigolo Dibona on Cima Grande di Lavaredo, and Spigolo Giallo and the Innerkofler route on Cima Piccola. In total, the duo amassed almost 3000 meters of elevation gain in 18 hours of non-stop climbing.

Gietl led the entire day and this is the breakdown of their climbs: start of Via Cassin at 05:30 with summit reached 07:50; start of Spigolo Demuth at 08:45 with summit reached at 10:30; start of Via Comici at about 11:30 with summit reached at 14:40; start of Spigolo Dibona at 16.15 with summit reached at 18.15; start of Spigolo Giallo 19:30 with summit reached at 20:50; start of Innerkofler at 22:15 with summit reached at 23:45.

Needless to say, in order to achieve these times the pro climbers took considerable risks, simul-climbing throughout with little gear. Not to be copied!
