Torre Venezia in the Civetta group of the Italian Dolomites lost a huge portion of its south face recently. Due to lockdown it is unclear when precisely the rockfall took place, although some sources indicate the 14th of April as being most likely. What is certain however is that a large portion of the wall is no longer there, meaning that some of the mountain’s classic outings have been altered significantly.

Local Civetta expert Alessandro Baù has carefully analysed photos of the face and indicates the following climbs as having been affected:

"Tissi (Attilio Tissi, Giovanni Andrich, Attilio Bortoli, 20/8/1933) in green,
Gran diedro (Giancarlo Biasin- Paolo Melucci, 27-28/7/1960) in orange.
Gran Diedro – Diretta (Pit Schubert, Klaus Werner, Alois Wojas, 6-7/7/1974) in purple"

Furthermore, it appears as if the rockfall has damaged the first pitches of Via Della Libertà (Umberto Marampon- Vincenzo Mussi, 14-19/9/1980) and, possibly, the start of nearby Rondò Veneziano (Christoph Hainz, Kurt Astner, 7/2000 and 8/2001) in yellow may be affected.
