Ace Slovakian mountaineer Ondrej Huserka is reported missing on Langtang Lirung in Nepal after having made the first ascent of the mountain's huge East Face with Cech alpinist Marek Holeček. Climbing in immaculate alpine style, the pair needed 5 bivouacs to breach the terrifying, 2.5 km high wall and summited the 7,234m peak at 11:00 am on 30 October.

They immediately began their descent and it was during this that Huserka fell into a crevasse. According to initial reports, Holeček failed to make any contact with this climbing partner and eventually descended on his own, reaching Base Camp safely yesterday early afternoon.

Despite the obvious difficulties, all hope is not lost. A rescue mission is currently being organised by friends and family and a helicopter is on standby to fly to mountain early on Sunday morning. An appeal has been launched to all climbers in Nepal who may be willing to take part in the operation.
