Last weekend we wanted to say goodbye to our club member, friend and climbing partner Matteo Bernasconi who tragically perished on 12 May in a ski mountaineering accident.

Two days of wonderful weather greeted us up in the Masino mountains that seemed to take part in the emotional event as they displayed their entire, wild beauty. We reached the Gianetti hut where many of our members stayed overnight, and from there we continued to the summit of Pizzo Badile on Sunday morning to scatter Bernasconi’s ashes.

It was a pleasure and an honour to share this last climb with him, and we did so just as he always liked it: with a great, joyous group of friends, all united by the same love for the mountains.

Although we bid him farewell up there, on one of the mountains that he loved most and that has meant so much to the Ragni di Lecco mountaineering club, we are certain that his presence will be felt again and again, tied to our ropes, on the most beautiful and highest mountains in the world.
