Moon Hill is not only an incredibly beautiful arch, it is certainly also one of the most interesting crags in the area. It comes as no surprise therefore that this was the first crag Todd Skinner equipped in 1990, inaugurating sport climbing in Yangshuo. The walk via the blue markers to the top of the arch and the panoramic viewpoint is highly recommended.
Access
The crag is located within the "Moon Hill Scenic Area" park, entrance to this costs 25 yuan (circa 2.5 €). An intricate network of paths lead to an infinite number of rounded hills and mountains, with rice fields still cultivated by traditional means. To reach the crag follow the path from the entrance directly to the arch in circa 30 minutes. At present there is some tension between the commercial enterprises and the peasants, as the former gain more from tourism than the latter. Along the walk to the crag you will encounter numerous people selling drinks and local products, please sustain them. Period
Yangshuo is located in the Guanxi province and has a subtropical climate. Although climbing is possible all year round, the best time of year is either spring or autumn. Climb
Climbing at Moon Hill varies considerably, from technical vertical slabs with small crimps to long stamina routes through the overhangs. Climbing is possible even when it rains and given the orientation, climbing is possible throughout the day. Notes
All routes are well bolted but not all are equipped with a lower-off carabiner. Always take a screwgate carabiner and some additional quickdraws for the lower-off manoeuvre.

Yangshuo Climbing Festival
The first Yangshuo Climbing Festival took place in October 2008 and the successful international event will be repeated from 13 - 15 November 2009.
The goal of the festival is to promote the sport of rock climbing and a sense of community among climbers throughout China in a fun, friendly, casual atmosphere. The festival organizers will donate a significant portion of proceeds raised through a modest entry fee back into the local Yangshuo schools in an effort to encourage a long-term collaborative partnership between climbers and the local community.
