Route
This route climbs a long series of slabs, corners, chimneys and cracks up the left-hand arête of Punta Rocca, the second highest peak on the Queen of the Dolomites. It is an excellent, beautiful and varied route that highlights the great intuition needed by the first ascentionists to identify the right line through the smooth slabs, especially in the lower half of the route. The rock transforms in the upper half and at times it may be loose, especially before the finishing slabs, close to the top and cable car.
Getting there
Take the motorway A22 Modena-Brennero and exit at Ora after Bolzano. Drive up the Val di Fiemme to Predazzo, then up the Val di Fassa to Canazei. Continue on up to Passo Fedaia and then descend to Malga Ciapela. From the car park at Malga Ciapela take path no. n. 610 to Rifugio Onorato Falier (2080 m.), nestled beneath the South face of the Marmolada (1.15 hrs from Malga Ciapela). For the routes situated on Punta Penia, continue past Rif. Falier along path no. 610 to Rif. Contrin (2016 located between the Val Contrin and the Val Rosalia. Access
From Rif. Falier follow path no. 610 towards Passo d'Ombretta. Leave the path on a flat section and head up to base of the wall. Now traverse west to the corner (1.00 hr from Rif. Falier). Descent
Return using the cable car back to Malga Ciapela, or descend the glacier along the normal route to Rif. Pian dei Fiacconi, and from her to Passo Fedaia. Gear
Two 50 m ropes, pegs, full rack, plenty of Kevlar threads and slings. Notes
The route, if climbed free, is graded max. 6b. The grades indicated on the topo are in line with those already published by Maurizio Giordani and Heinz Mariacher.

Bella via, l'abbiamo combinata con la diretta Messner. Occhio nella parte bassa ai camini, perchè se sono bagnati (come è capitato a noi) non sono banali, soprattutto il camino fessurato del penultimo tiro prima della cengia, dove la roccia non è delle migliori! ;-)Diretta Messner molto bella,occhio a non farsi fuorviare dalle soste delle altre vie.In particolare è bene beccare bene il canale che poi porta alla placca di 6+. In questo caso è bene avere le foto della parete della guida di Mariacher (in tedesco), moolto più chiare delle foto di Giordani!Buon divertimento!

Sehr schöne Tour: unten super Platten. 5. SL nicht leicht zu finden. Der Kamin vor dem Band war total nass, da man rechts klettert, ist es jedoch nicht so schlecht. Wir haben aufgrund der Nässe 3 Meter links des Originalstandes gesichert (> nächste Seillänge 60 M!) Im oberen Teil stecken sehr viele Normalhaken, dadurch wird die Orientierung sehr erleichtert. Der Fels ist nicht sehr brüchig, sondern etwas kleinsplittrig. Empfehlenswerte Tour, mit wunderbarem Blick in die Moderne Zeiten, wir haben 7 Stunden benötigt.

Stupenda!La parte bassa su meravigliose placche, fare attenzione a metà della prima parte dove bisogna spostarsi abbstanza verso destra per non andare a fare una delle numerose varianti nelle placche. Il diedro finale di uscita (non facile) nella cengia era asciutto. la parte alta dove si parla di roccia friabile, effettivamente non è sana al 100 %, ma le innumerovoli ripetizioni hanno reso abbastanza sicuri gli appigli e comunque fatta in libera è un bel "mach", i chiodi ci sono ma molto utili sono i friend anche medio grossi. Poi concordo con il fatto, che la relazione di planet, non è completamente corretta nelle difficoltà e lo schizzo è molto approssimativo, infatti il Giordani nel tiro dopo la cengia da 7°, mentre loro danno 6°-, il diedro del 2° tiro che è 6°+, lo danno 4°- ?, mentre il 3° tiro dato dal Dinoia come 6°+ (e confermo) lo danno 5°-.

che dire se non quello che ha detto beppe? visto che eravamo la cordata gemella?bella via d'ambiente, come solo la marmolada offre. dal primo tiro della parte alta dirigersi verso il filo dello spigolo.chiodatura, appena sufficiente e da integrare, comunque quella presente è buona.nella parte bassa attenzione ad una sosta un pò troppo alta rispetto a quella originaria per finire il sesto tiro (rel . di noia), occorre traversare + bassi e a dx, per arrivare alla base di una fessura verticale e un pò friabile (sosta).gradazioni delle relazioni un pò strette se fatte in libera. io comunque ho tirato chiodi e...nut, frend ecc
