Route

The summit of the Langkofel shoulder can be reached via one of the great Dolomites classics, namely by climbing the first section of Raggio di sole and combining this with the icefall Cascata dello Spallone. As explained by Massimo Meneghetti who carried out the first ascent on 28/02/1989 together with Alfredo Sperotto, this gully starts circa 100m above the Fassani ledge, ie circa 300m below Rifugio Demetz (2687m). It continues for another 3 pitches up the gully to reach the characteristic hold formed by a wedged boulder. From here Raggio di Sole continues left for another 2 pitches past mixed terrain, while Cascata dello Spallone climbs the beautiful vertical ice drip on the right. First climbed in 15/12/1990 by Adam Holzknecht and Hubert Moroder, five beautiful pitches lead to the SSE Arête of Punta Rosmarie. A further 200m lead to the splendid Cima dello Spallone summit.
Getting there
Take the motorway A22, exit at Bolzano Nord, continue along the SS241 past Passo Costalunga, Val di Fassa, Canazei to Passo Sella.
