National Week of hiking 2014: the most beautiful outings in the Cadore and Ampezzo Dolomites
The hike Nuvolau Cinque Torri in the Ampezzo basin leads to the Averau col where, during the First World War, an Italian lookout point was positioned. The Nuvolau mountain hut was built in 1883 and was the first refuge in the Dolomites. The panorama from its summit is wonderful and sweeps from Cortina to all the 3000m peaks in the Dolomites, via the Pale di San Martino, the Breonie Alps and the High Tauern with its Großglockner. The route descends north down the ridge towards Cinque Torri and leads to the remains of the Trephor tower that tumbled in 2004 due to "tipping".
But the routes are not limited to trekking and in fact there are a dozen mountain bike trips. One of these discovers the mountains Cristallo and Sorapis through the beautiful Valbona plain and past the exciting encompassing peaks: Sorapis, the Peaks of Laudo, Cristallo, Cadini di Misurina. The route leads past Lake Misurina and on to admire the impressive Marmarole group and the fantastic Cadini towers to the north via an alpine world comprised of pine forests and picturesque hidden corners.
All of this, and much more, can be found on the event website where the entire program is downloadable and browsable. Via this site you can plan your trip by checking out the calendar prepared by the different CAI clubs and even book your accommodation. Everything is set therefore for a warm welcome in hotels, bed & breakfasts and dozens of mountain huts. Communication and promotion is run through the portal on NuovoCadore.it, while updates about the National Week of hiking will also be published directly on the official Facebook event page.
