Reinhold Messner and Diane, Gioachino and Betta Gobbi, two weddings and an ode to life

Weddings don’t usually make our headline news, but these two are authentic messages of love that cannot be ignored.

Last Saturday Betta and Gioachino Gobbi, the famous couple from Courmayeur and the historic directors of Grivel, tied the knot. Born below Mont Blanc in 1945 and son of the famous mountaineer and mountain guide Toni Gobbi and Romilda Bartholier, Gioachino is now 76 years old and remains a whirlwind of ideas, while for decades his wife Betta ensured that the two of them, and Grivel, were visited regularly by the world’s mountaineering elite.

The other marriage on the agenda is between Reinhold Messner and his partner from Luxembourg Diane Schumacher. The King of 8000ers will therefore get married for the third time and even if the 76-year-old is right when he tells the newspaper l'Adige that "It is an event that concerns the two of us and not the rest of the world", we can only be happy for these acts of love and hope in these particular and difficult times.
