Ice Climbing Festival 2025 at Eispark Osttirol, Austria
For the eighth year running the Eiskletterfestival ice climbing festival will be held in Austria from 10 to 12 January at the Eispark Osttirol. This crag is located close to the Matrei Tauernhaus mountain hut, below the Grossglockner in the Hohe Tauern National Park,. The venue hosts approximately 50 artificial icefalls of all difficulties, from easy to extremely difficult.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the first Eispark developed specifically for ice climbing in Austria and as always the program is packed with things to do, ranging from free ice climbing, mixed climbing and dry tooling courses, to ice gear tests, the Austrian Ice Climbing Championship and an Open competition. The program for Saturday and Sunday also includes climbing for children aged 6 and up and igloo building, while on Friday evening the guest of honor is the local mountaineer Rudolf Hauser, author of numerous important first ascents and repeats. The title of the evening could not be more fitting: Mental Attitude.
The crag can be reached easily via with a 30-minute walk from the Matrei Tauernhaus hut, which in turn can be accessed via the Felbertauernstraße. Partner companies are Arcteryx, Austria Alpin, Black Diamond, CAMP, Edelrid, Eliteclimb, Grivel, HDry, La Sportiva, Ortovox, Petzl, Salewa e SCARPA. The cost of the Festival is €40 for one day, €70 for two.
