Online registration is now open for two of the ski mountaineering races that form part of the spectacular and prestigious La Grande Course competition circuit: the XXI Mezzalama Trophy scheduled to take place at Breuil - Cervinia on 22 April 2017 and the VI Adamello Ski Raid, scheduled for the 2nd of April 2017.

As to the legendary, Mezzalama, following careful scrutiny of each athlete’s curriculum, 300 teams will be admitted to the race, enabling a maximum of 900 athletes to take part. In assessing the curricula, priority will be given to the best ranked athletes in the Grande Course circuit races and in the most prestigious competitions in this particular speciality. Entries will close on 24 March 2017. Once the three hundred teams have been confirmed, any remaining teams qualifying for admission will be put on a waiting list and entered as replacements in the case of withdrawals.

On 22 April next, the Mezzalama Trophy will return to the original course, the trail linking Breuil-Cervinia to Gressoney over Monte Rosa. The most important change in the race trail regards the start. In order to valorise the heart of Breuil-Cervinia, and after the positive experience of the 2015 start in the centre of Gressoney-La-Trinité, the teams taking part in the XXI edition will start off on foot, with their skis tied to their backpack, from the footpath at the foot of the Matterhorn. The climb up to Plateau Rosà will also follow a slightly different route, towards the Colle del Theodulo. In other words, teams will retrace the same route taken in last year’s final descent but in the opposite direction. The first part of the route is fairly easy but becomes very technical during the ascent to the foot of the Theodulo pass.

As regards the Adamello Ski Raid, 350 teams will be admitted, for a total of 700 athletes. The biennial competition for teams of two forms part of the international La Grande Course circuit and crosses the extraordinary mountain landscape in Italy’s Adamello - Presanella Alps.

Technically difficult and of great historical importance, the race course is already wrapped in a blanket of snow, up to two meters high above 2,600m. It will be inspected during the first week of December and the organizers, led by Alessandro Mottinelli, hope to follow the extremely popular 2015 course and add some small variations at Cresta Croce. This will depend on conditions though and will be decided nearer the time.
