| On Friday 5 July the second round of the X-adventure Raid Series gets underway between Les Arcs, Bourg St Maurice and Courmayeur. RAID stands for Rare Adventures, Intense Discoveries, and this second stage is considered to be the most demanding course in the international circuit. Starting off with the Riksgränsen-Narvik event in Sweden and Norway at the start of June, the 50 teams will now compete in Italy and France before travelling to the U.S.A, Austria and Germany and then Spain. At the end of the circuit, the 30 top ranked teams qualify automatically for what is hailed to be the world's most famous and toughest adventure race, the Raid Gauloises 2003. Tomorrows two-day stage at Les Arcs/Bourg St Maurice-Courmayeur covers a total distance of 180km with almost 10,000m height gain. The mixed four-man teams take part in a variety of different activities including mountain-biking, orienteering, inline-skating and canoeing beneath Mont Blanc, the rooftop of Europe.
