Ice Climbing World Cup 2019, Saas Fee in Switzerland hosts third stage
After starting in mid-Januaryat Cheongsong in South Korea and then moving on to Beijing in China, the Ice Climbing World Cup 2019 continues this morning with the third stage at Saas Fee in Switzerland. This morning’s action includes the qualifiers of both Lead and Speed, and this evening the fastest ice climbers will compete in the finals as of 19:30, transmitted in live streaming. The Lead semifinals and finals take place tomorrow and these will be transmitted live, too.
This year the small Swiss town is hosting it’s 20th anniversary of world-class ice climbing competitions and all eyes in the coldest car park in the country will be on current leaders Maria Tolokonina and Nikolai Kuzovlev from Russia who won both Lead stages. Provisional leaders in the Speed event are their teammates Vladislav Iurlov and Ekaterina Koshcheeva.
After Saas Fee, the IWC moves on to Corvara - Rabenstein in Italy (1-3 February), Champagny-en-Vanoise in France (7-9 February) and then Denver, USA (22 - 24 February). The Ice Climbing World Championships will take place from 8 -10 March at Kirov in Russia.
