Solveig Korherr climbs Jungfraumarathon (9a) at Gimmelwald in Switzerland
German climber Solveig Korherr has made a swift repeat of Jungfraumarathon, a steep 9a sports climb at Gimmelwald in Switzerland Bernese Alps. Korherr tried the line for 5 days last year but then stopped after injuring one of her fingers. After a winter bouldering the 25-year-old returned this summer and, much to her own surprise, when she pulled back on she immediately realised that she was significantly stronger than before.
She needed another 9 days this year for the redpoint, carried out over two and a half weeks and climbing one day on and one day off since the style of climbing at Gimmelwald is, in Korherr's words, "super powerful and demanding."
The redpoint occurred last week, on a day when "everything felt perfect." This is Korherr's second at the grade, having climbed Cabane au Canada at Rawyl in 2021.
