On Saturday, August 29, 2015 Chris McNamara - a.k.a. Mr Supertopo - and his partner Megan Sullivan temporally placed 39 solar-powered LED lanterns up Snake Dike, the classic moderate route on Half Dome established in a single day in July 1965 by Eric Beck, Jim Bridwell and Chris Fredericks.

The aim of McNamara and Sullivan was to create a visual light project to raise awareness for safe climbing and the two hiked the six mile approach to the 2,000 foot face climb while three photographers, Jerry Dodrill, Kyle Turner and Dean Fleming, shot amazing photos and time-lapse video two miles away at Glacier Point. Red lights were placed on all of bolts and anchors that have been replaced over the years, while white lights illuminated the rest of the route.

This effort was in celebration of the American Safe Climbing Association, that has rebolted over 14,000 bolts across America and beyond over the last 18 years. It goes without saying that this commendable initiative highlights the importance of regular maintenance and rebolting of existing sport climbs not only throughout the USA, but also worldwide.
