Scassa and Sarti at Hotel... Supramonte

Severino Scassa and Simone Sarti climb Hotel Supramonte at P.ta Cucuttos, Gole di Gorropu, Sardinia
Climbers have visited Sardinia’s most contended once again, and this is probably the nicest present that could be made to Rolando Larcher and Roberto Vigiani, the two who first saw and invented this great route. The Italians Simone Sarti and Severino Scassa recently paid a visit to the most famous line at Punta Cucuttos...

In early May Severino Scassa and Simone Sarti (numerous first ascents together with Maurizio Oviglia in the Supramonte area) repeated Hotel Supramonte.

The route was climbed in a day (after having checked it out beforehand) and the two spent a night in the Hotel Supramonte during the descent. Severino freed all the hard pitches up to the Hotel except for the 5th pitch, which was climbed with one A0 section, just like the first ascentionists. Simone Sarti on-sighted the final three pitches (up to 7c+). Severino and Simone confirmed the grade beauty and psychologically demanding nature of the route, although it is never dangerous.

The two used in-situ gear belonging to Beat Kammerlander, who had climbed the route the week before but is still working the crux pitch, so as to climb the 5th pitch. Severino and Simone discovered a bag containing the local 'Cannonau' red wine and some 'Red bull' belonging to Beat; they added a bottle of Sardinian grappa called 'Filu e ferru' and a card wishing Beat all the best for his next ascent.
