Piazza Pulita in Sardinia, a new crag dedicated to Oskar Piazza

During the last few months a new crag has been bolted at Gutturu Cardaxius, located between Masua and Bugerru on the SW coast of Sardinia. Situated close to the popular crag Istentales, this new crag is also on the road and therefore destined to become highly popular. After the official inauguration a few days ago, the new routes wish to share this information about the crag dedicated to Oscar Piazza who died tragically in Nepal in 2015. (M. O)

NEW CRAG AT GUTTURU CARDAXIUS: PIAZZA PULITA

A new crag has been added to the Gutturu Cardaxius canyon. The new sports crag was developed thanks to Giorgio Puxeddu, Vincenzo Carcangiu and many friends.

The new sector with its 26 pitches is a hundred meters from Istentales, and can be reached by continuing to walk along the main road to the wading point, where it springs into view on the left. park in the obvious car park and reach the cliff without further ado.

The new crag is dedicated to Oskar Piazza, the National CNSAS Instructor (National Corps of Alpine and Speleological Rescue) who tragically died in the earthquake that rocked Nepal in April 2015.

Oskar was a great friend, a brother, and his passing left a huge void that has been partially made less painful by remembering all the many moments spent together; moments always full of meaning, never trivial.

The names of the routes at Piazza Pulita recall some of his phrases, thoughts, places, friends, loves, magnificent obsessions that coloured his life.

The whole crag has been flawlessly bolted, with belay chains and abseil carabiners. The short run-outs and easy climbs will make it a reference point for rock climbing in SW Sardinia.
