Climbing legends, the video of the first Arco Rock Legends
Directed by Francesco Mansutti (Studio Due), Vinicio Stefanello (PlanetMountain.com). Video Associazione Rock Master.
We imagine that during these days of enforced suspension some have started to take a step back in time. Partly out of boredom, and partly because it’s always important to remember where we come from. Perhaps (the older ones) have started to look through some family photo albums. While the younger ones among us will have flicked through their digital archives on their computers or smartphones. Certainly many will be amazed at all those images, many of which are almost completely forgotten about. And surprised that the past that appears so distant, on closer inspection, can instil strength and hope for what is to come.
Bearing this in mind here is the video planetmountain.com made for the first edition of Arco Rock Legends. The year was 2006 and the Rock Master, the ultra classic climbing competition for the world’s best, was joined by this sort of "climbing oscar" intended not only to recognise the best climbs outdoors and in competitions, but also to promote and share the deep values of our intrinsic love for climbing.
The main players of this historic edition 14 years ago were Spain’s Daniel Andrada and Josune Bereziartu, Japan’s Yuji Hirayama, America’s Chris Sharma and Italy’s Maurizio "Manolo" Zanolla for ascents outdoors, while those in the running for the best competition athlete award were Austria’s Angela Eiter, Italy’s Flavio Crespi and Tomas Mrazek from the Czech Republic. All absolute climbing stars. The jury, comprised of the most important international climbing magazines, chose Angela Eiter and Josune Bereziartu, two women!
We clearly remember that start, and the following 14 editions, with a little nostalgia. And we remember the enthusiasm and applause for this video which featured the protagonists of that first Rock Legends. Proving that they are true climbing legends
