Watch Matteo Della Bordella & Leo Gheza climb Patagonia's Care Bear Traverse

The video of Italian alpinists Matteo Della Bordella and Leo Gheza climbing the Care Bear Traverse in the Fitz Roy massif in Patagonia, i.e. enchaining Aguja Guillaumet, Aguja Mermoz, Pilastro Goretta and Fitz Roy.

"The most epic ridge you can imagine." This is how Italian alpinist Matteo Della Bordella describes the legendary Patagonia skyline which comprises the peaks Aguja Guillaumet, Aguja Mermoz, Cerro Fitz Roy, Aguja Poincenot, Aguja Rafael Juárez, Aguja Saint-Exúpery and Aguja de l'S.

Americans Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold were the first to complete this iconic enchainment in February 2014, while in February 2021 Belgium's Sean Villanueva O'Driscoll solo climbed in the opposite direction, starting from Aguja de l'S and ending on Aguja Guillaumet, to complete his astounding Moonwalk Traverse.

In January this year Della Bordella together with Leonardo Gheza tried to complete the first repeat of the Fitz Roy Traverse, but due to the onset of bad weather they decided not to take excessive risks and bailed after reaching the top of Fitz Roy. Behind them lay Aguja Guillaumet, Aguja Mermoz and the Goretta Pillar, ie the so-called Care Bear Traverse, climbed for the first time by Dana Drummond and Freddie Wilkinson in 2008.
