One Day as a Tiger. The story of Alex MacIntyre by John Porter
I’ve just finished reading a fantastic book, logical and compelling, the story of Alex Macintyre, the British mountaineer from the seventies. I really looked forward to laying my hands on this book, I’d been expecting it for a while and now, now is it all over? No, if a book is good one, it doesn’t end with its last page, it leaves something behind called “inspiration”. And it’s then up to the reader to find the right dimensions of their "inspiration" by adding their own colours, without forcing things and without abandoning the sheet of life.
Books written in another language don’t always hit the mark, often superb masterpieces lose, in translation, some of the original feel, but this book has been translated into Italian with passion and love... translating is a difficult task!
I read this book slowly, I read it quickly, I looked for mistakes, tiny errors, anything negative, but except for two letters that "fled" in the printing stage, I didn’t find anything wrong and am simply happy!
The book talks about a character, a complex man, fascinating and with very clear ideas, methodical, a rebel, someone who went against the grain... A mountaineering genius. A fantastic story with a tragic outcome… but perhaps this was bound to happen, destiny isn’t written in a book, it’s found along the way.
I recommend this book, but I’m not capable of recommending, I read a lot and make plenty of mistakes, but if you happen to read it, you’ll recommend it. Enjoy the Read.
