Nicolas Favresse, Olivier Favresse, Ben Ditto and Sean Villanueva to explore Greenland's big walls once again
“We are off again to an exciting adventure! We have just landed at Aasiaat in Greenland and are currently busy loading Dodo's delight, our 1 m fiber glass sailboat which will consist off our musical studio for the next 2 to 3 months” explained Nico Favresse, adding "this time though we brought more musical instruments, more fishing equipment and more whiskey for our captain which we hope will help us with our new assignment: testing the acoustic of some massive big walls located in the fiords on the East coast of Baffin Island. The next few days we will sail north from here in the search of virgin walls to climb while waiting for the pack ice to clear so that we can cross to Baffin Island. The team so far is in great shape - no diarrhea yet to report."
As many will remember, in 2010 the team spent three months exploring huge big walls, often setting off directly from their sailing boat onto the rock face, and established nine new routes for a total of 4500m of virgin rock. Notably, they placed just one single bolt and in an interview at the time Favresse commented, half jokingly and half seriously "We placed just one bolt on a slab. We couldn’t protect it and it was too scary and hard to commit. We were simply not brave enough to keep it clean or retreat. There is always room for improvement..." This time round they're taking little chances as Favresse concludes with a smile: "The ethic of our captain is very strict - There will be no bolts allowed on board!"
