Maurizio Giordano perishes climbing Gasherbrum IV

32-year-old mountaineer Italian Maurizio Giordano from the Aosta Military Expedition perished while climbing Gasherbrum IV in Karakorum, Pakistan.

Devastating news comes from Pakistan’s Karakorum where 32-year-old Cuneo mountaineer Maurizio Giordano lost his life during an attempt to climb to Gasherbrum IV. The aspiring mountain guide was a member of an expedition that included Valerio Stella, Marco Majori, Marco Farina and Daniele Bernasconi. The goal was to ascend the 7925m summit of the "shining mountain” precisely 60 years after the first ascentionists, Walter Bonatti and Carlo Mauri who formed part of the famous expedition led by Riccardo Cassin.
