Fly Armin Holzer

The short film dedicated to Armin Holzer, the champion slackline and highline athlete who died in paragliding accident on Monte Piana (2324m, Sesto Dolomites) on 4 December 2015.

The text of the video: There are places I’ve never been to before. Areas I’ve never even imagined and lands I’d never have managed to describe, if not by outlining them in my mind. And then there are places I know like the back of my hand. But none of these are as perfect as where you are now. Somewhere I can only imagine. I believe it’s comprised of wind, of air and is golden in colour. It smells like a land with no name, weighs like the gram of a cloud.

You know what I think Armin? That there are a thousand ways to bid farewell, but none are a justification. What is right or wrong, I just don’t know. Not even who determines the rules. But I do know one, fundamental thing, that vastly exceeds all the rest. It’s called lightness. It’s difficult to experience. But it’s so simple to observe with a clear mind, devoid of all negative, painful thoughts. It’s that lightness of the wind, of the being, suspended above a line that joins the mountains. That lightness of the heart, so needed to soar through time.

That lightness of thought that clears the fog and enables you to fly where we hadn’t even imagined. Creeping into colours, scents and warmth, hidden and only just revealed. The lightness of smiles, the lightness of adrenaline. Because energy is your lightness. This is you. This is why you can fly, why you can feel the wind.

It’s a privilege. Accept it and allow us to breathe it, too, lifting us off the ground. Because we’re always too busy to remain put, when in truth we’d need so little to be more human.

A life fueled by the winds Armin, marked by an equilibrium only you can perceive, across the world’s mountains. There where dawn gives way to day, breaks onto rocks and he plateaus, draws that
line across the horizon only seen from that magical perspective, and enters right into the eyes.

Blue. Like yours. Like ours.

Ciao Vez
