Aiguille du Midi cable car 1st section closed

![]() The first section of the Aiguille du Midi cable car is closed once again. An accident, caused by human error and thankfully with no fateful consequences, has forced the Mont Blanc operators to close the first section until September. The cable car, travelling from Chamonix to Plan des Aiguilles, failed to slow down properly as it reached the middle station, and consequently crashed violently into the building. Thankfully no passengers were injured. The cable car was closed in early July due to technical problems which came about during the substitution of the cables. The second section, from Plan des Aiguilles to Aguille du Midi, remains open, but the operators expect to loose 3 million euro as a result of the accident.
