The Dolomites offer numerous sport climbing crags, and in addition to very beautiful climbing, they often present an incredible landscape with stunning views on the surrounding valleys and mountains. One example of such a jewel is Salares, reminding you of a fortress of mainly yellow rock. You can see the wall when you drive from Val Badia in direction of the Valparola pass. Especially suited for climbing in autumn, this crag lies at the heart of the Dolomites and was discovered by Armin Craffonara.
The routes on this wall demand a very high level of endurance. Being slightly to severely overhanging, a few lines reach a height of almost 40 meters. The level of difficulty for most routes starts with the 7th french grade, not to miss „Zinnentraining“ (7b). Under farourable conditions, climbing is possible until late autumn: exposed to the west and situated on some 2000 meters above the sea, the crag gets sunlight from the morning. In the late afternoon, when the sun goes down, the rock is coloured in deep red, which is unique for the Dolomites. An absolute must.

Access
From Val Pusteria drive into Val Badia and continue to Stern (La Ila). In Stern, turn left towards Sankt Kassian / Passo Valparola. Pass Armentarola and continue up the road to the pass. Just before reaching the pass, there is a right turn (last turn), where an old military road branches off. Park the car here.
From Cortina drive to Passo Falzarego and continue to Passo Valparola, before driving down to the first turn on the side of Val Badia. Park the car on the right side, where an old military road branches off.
Approach: Follow the old military road for a few hundred meters. Then, a trail branches off to the right (20a / Rifugio Scotoni) and leads directly to the crag. 20 minutes. Period
