This crag has massive potential, since very little has been developed as yet. The Rocca di Alaró is impressively large and can easily be identified from the plane when coming in to land at Palma. Two areas have been bolted: the "Paret de sa porta" beneath the Castillo and the "Sector Chorreras" on the right-hand side of the crag. Between these two lies "El Medio" with 10 routes between 5+ and 7b+.
Access
Alaró can easily be reached via the C713. Turn off the main road onto a dirt track, following the sign for "Castillo di Alaró". Park the car by the restaurant and follow the obvious path diagonally beneath the "Paret de sa porta". To get to the "Sector Chorreras", follow the path from the restaurant diagonally along a stone wall until the path leads away rapidly away from the wall. Climb down at this point and continue rightwards past some more dry stone walls beneath the crag . The routes are above and to the left. Logistics
Accommodation is not a problem as any travel agent will have hundreds of rooms on offer, but most of the hotels are about an hour's drive away from the crags. Package deals (flight & car only) can be very cheap and the best thing to do is to find a Bed & Breakfast inland. Period
Apart from the summer months, climbing is possible all year round. March/April and October/November are ideal. Notes
Il Castillo lies at roughly 700m and is extremely exposed to all weather conditions. Chorrera means tufa, so obviously the crag seeps after prolonged periods of rain. The sun arrives at around midday (one hour later on "Mega Tufa Wall"). Bibliography
