The beautiful Via Ferrata San Salvatore winds its way up the NW Face of San Salvatore above Lugano and tackles a line to the left of the funicular railway.
Over 250m long and 150m high, this “sporty” via ferrata is considered challenging: it is physically demanding as there are some airy, vertical sections that require brute strength.
The ascent is varied and the outstanding location offers an enviable view over the city of Lugano and its lake. At the end of the Via Ferrata you can choose to descend to Pazzallo down the obvious path or, recommended, ascend to the summit in about 15 minutes and enjoy the view that sweeps across the entire Alps to the Po Valley.
Getting there
Reach Lugano, Canton Ticino, Switzerland. Access
From the summit either descend with the funicular railway or walk down on foot along the beautiful trail. This offers great views onto the entire area and, weather and time permitting, this is highly recommended. Gear
Harness, shock-absorbing lanyard with purpose-designed karabiners and a helmet. Notes

Technical components of the San Salvatore via ferrata
Anchors: around 80 pieces, length 40 cm, diameter 20 mm. Made of STAINLESS STEEL; advantages: uniform strength and deformation, plus they do not deteriorate with exposure to the elements. Chemically bonded; advantage: greater duration since infiltration between anchor and rock is prevented.
Cable: approx. 250 metres, diameter 13 mm with breaking load 11000 kg.
Secured every 4-5 metres.
Steps: approx.60 pieces, diameter 20 mm. Made of STAINLESS STEEL.
