Radule waterfalls - Col de Vergio
Reach Corte via the N193. Access
Take the D84 (Corte-Porto) for Col di Vergio, the watershed between Haute Corse and southern Corsica. Park the car circa 4km beneath the pass, next to a hairpin bend and an obvious large wooden map which placed at the start of the walk. Itinerary
Follow the path (blue markers) from the wooden map to a fork after just 5 minutes. Keep left and walk past the thick undergrowth to reach the first larch trees, 40m high and almost 10 times as old! After meeting up with the famous GR20 the path opens onto the valley, from here continue easily for another 30 minutes to reach the refuge.
For lovers of Corsican cheese this refuge is an obligatory stop-off and, after having sampled the smelly delights, descend leftwards behind the hut (take care not to descend directly down into the valley) and follow the sound of the stream to reach the bridge which crosses the Golo river.
The small pools will prove hard to resist and after another short break say goodbye to the GR20 and cross the bridge, ascend slightly right and follow the obvious markers that lead back down into the valley.
There are numerous markers at this point: take care not to go wrong at this point by following the main path at altitude, instead follw the markers swiftly downwards to the river and the Radule waterfall – an ideal place for another refreshing dip!
From this pool continue gently along the valley floor and meander first left, then right to enter the forest once again. The path leads over the river and then starts its gentle climb past magnificent silver birch trees, larch and pine trees to join up with the fork encountered at the start of the walk.
