Splendid itinerary which often offers good powder snow even late in the season. Combined with the descent into Valle delle Frane this becomes a truly superb outing. Can also be combined with Palla Bianca in a single day.
Access
Val Senales can be reached easily from Bolzano by taking the SS38 westwards to Merano and then Naturno. After Naturno turn off right for Val Senales and reach Maso Corto at the valley head (Bolzano - Senales 60 km). Itinerary
From Maso Corto take the 2 chairlifts and quickly reach the summit of Teufelsegg. Put on your skins and ascend quickly to the obvious small col on the crest above, from where you gain a magnificent view onto Palla Bianca, Punta di Vallelunga, Hintereisferner and the Ötzaler Alps. Take off your skis and quickly ascend the easy crest to the summit of Teufelsegg and, snow conditions depending, immediately strap on your skis or descend slightly then ski down to the glacier. Ski diagonally keeping as close as possible to the rocks and reach the glacier at circa 3000m. From here ascend the obvious slope heading for the obvious summit. The pre-summit can be reached with skis stil on, while the main summit is reached via a 50m crest with exposed Grade I sections.
Descent
The descent is exciting especially if the snow is still powder. Descend direct, aiming for the plateau just above the 3000m mark. Strap on skins and briefly ascend to the col before Giogo della Vedretta, then descend down into Val delle Frane. Gear
