Forca de la Val - Montasio
Possibly the most classic ski mountaineering intinerary in the Sella Nevea ski area. It is highly popular despite the ascent up the long valley which is both physically demanding and requires perseverance. The descent, often on excellent snow, runs down open slopes at a constant angle. Only the final 100m can prove to be demanding and create technical problems. The short Forca Riomoz col is simply too beautiful to be overlooked and is clearly visible on the left when climbing towards the summit: those on form can link both cols in a single day. Alternatively, dedicate another outing for this steep and beautiful col.
Reach Sella Nevea by driving up Val Raccolana
AccessDeparture: Sella Nevea, from the carpark close to the Guardia di Finanza barracks
ItineraryFrom the Guardia di Finanza barracks ascend the Secchioni piste until joining the muletrack on the right which leads off into the woods (path No. 625). Follow this until the path peters out close to the snowy clearing at Casera Cregnedûl di Sopra (1.00 hour). The gully immediately springs into view: continue past the hut and and ascend the wide valley first past rare vegetation, then across open terrain making best use of the central hump, to then reach a small upper plateau. Continue left slightly from here and ascend the slopes benath the col to where it narrows between the rocks. Climb up the steep finishing gully to quickly reach the col (2.30 hours).
