We're The Superhumans - Rio 2016 Paralympic Games
This video, produced for the Paralympics scheduled to take place in Brazil from 7 - 18 September, is an awesome celebration of making the nigh impossible almost possible.
British climber Paul Pritchard, partially paralysed as a result of his fall on the Totem Fall in Tasmania in 1998, agrees that the film is "Fantastic", however he warns the following "I am still having trouble about people with disabilities being called Superhuman. Positive discrimination has been shown to be just as damaging as the good old fashioned negative kind - "If they are superhuman why do they need ramps or disability pensions?" We don't hear of able bodied athletes being called superhuman do we? Maybe? Anyway there will come a time when disabled athletes will be no more and no less than ordinary athletes. Don't get me wrong, this is an important film and an important step in disarming prejudice as long as we realise we have a few more steps to go…"
08/04/2016 - Paul Pritchard summits 'his' Totem Pole in Tasmania
On April 4, 2016 British climber Paul Pritchard summited the Totem Pole, the amazing obelisk in Tasmania where he suffered a nigh fatal fall in 1998. As a result of that incident Pritchard was left partially paralysed and now, 18 years later, his ascent celebrates a conquest and circle that has now been closed.
