THREE DAYS AND THREE EVENTS DEDICATED TO BOULDERING World-class bouldering returns to Rovereto, N.Italy from 12 - 14 May with the third stage of the Bouldering World Cup 2006. What lies in store for the Plastic Rock organisation is one of the most anticipated competitions of the entire season. Even the more so since this heralds the return of one of the stages which contributed most to the success of the World Cup bouldering circuit during early 2000. This is the fifth time that the small city in Trentino will host a spectacular climbing competition of the hardest problems around, and this anniversary will quite rightly be celebrated as an important event. At Rovereto there will be a true event dedicated to the world-calls bouldering for the champions, bouldering for all and also a convention entitled "Born to Climb" which analyses climbing and its values. The program is made up of the three intense days dedicated to the World Cup on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 May, and also of the Parassiti Bloc open-to-all competition/meeting on Sunday 14 May. The Born to Climb congress will take place on Friday 12 May. This is the first time that climbing will be analysed not merely as a sport but also its pedagogic, curative and therapeutic value. Physiotherapists, osteopathists, psychologists, doctors and technical directors of various different European countries with years of first hand experience in this field will take part in the meeting. Bouldering World Cup Rovereto and Melloblocco 2006; a joint venture for bouldering's sake. This year the baton will be passed to Rovereto from the Melloblocco, the most important international "open air" bouldering meeting organised, for the third year running, by the Lombardy Mountain Guides. On 6 and 7 May those bouldering at the Melloblocco can climb problems set by Jackie Godoffe, Mario Prinoth and Loris Manzana; the latter two (together with Laurent Laporte) are the official route setters of the Bouldering World Cup in Rovereto. This collaboration symbolically highlights the close tie between bouldering outdoors on rock immersed in nature and bouldering competitions on artificial walls. This obvious diversity of places and prime materials bases itself on the same passion and above all on the same people who carry out this sport. This is therefore an excellent reason to participate at the Melloblocco and the then travel from the west to the east to Rovereto: to be there, to live and enjoy all the emotions only bouldering can give. BORN TO CLIMB CONGRESS For many years rock climbing was considered a training method for mountaineering. Nowadays it has matured into a completely new sport which acquires increasing value and autonomy both it the sporting context and the curative-pedagogic context. Climbing, thanks also to the advent of artificial walls, is gaining an important role in education, pedagogic rehabilitation and physical hygiene. “Born to climb” is the first European congress which concentrates on climbing not only as a sport but also as a pedagoci method for the disabled, and as a cure for physical and therapeutic problems. Modern sports climbing represents the basis of this new therapeutic conception. Climbing and moving in suspension is indispensable for motory development and an erect human stature. This motory activity offers motivational and therapeutic neurophysical stimuli which help combat neuromuscular and orthopedic dysfunctions (joint and vertebra trauma and scoliosis) and neurological dysfunctions (sclerosis, paresis, etc.). Climbing integrates motory components such as balance, a considered dosage of strength and coordination. All these operate to develop an individual's personality via the awareness of dangers and the responsibilities that pertain to climbing. Climbing is viewed as a therapy for the disabled and for psychologically unstable children as it stimulates both muscular-skeletal aspects and above all the emotional sphere of an individual. It is a challenge which enables people to express their potential, and in doing so they significantly improve their self-esteem. Climbing is also analysed as a teaching method in schools with the objective of becoming a traditional sport to be practiced during Physical Education. WORLD CUP ROVERETO HISTORY Rovereto, Bouldering and the World Cup. The history of the bouldering competition in Rovereto goes backs a long way, just like the history of the Plastic Rock sports club which has always organised, and marked, important moments of this sport. Many will remember the competitions which in 2000, 2001 and 2002 animated the historical center of this small town. And in 2003 the competition shifted the beautiful MART square in front of the Rovereto Museum of Modern Art. Many still remember the performances of those great athletes who always delighted the crowd in Rovereto. World Champions such as Christian Core and Mauro Calibani competed alongside the Russian prince Salavat Rahmetov, the idol and priceless Chris Sharma, the bouldering queen Sandrine Levet and the splendid Olga Bibik. Not to mention masterful Daniel Dulac, the ace Jerome Meyer, Kilian Fischhuber and all the other great protagonists of these last few years. They have always rendered the bouldering spectacular, driven by a passion which Rovereto has always exalted. HALL OF FAME WORLD CUP ROVERETO 2000 1. Salavat Rakhmetov RUS - Sandrine Levet FRA 2.
