Oliviero Bosatelli wins the Tor des Géants 2016!

The Tor des Géants 2016 was won this afternoon by Oliviero Bosatelli after 75 hours and 10 minutes. All the remaining athletes competing in the grueling endurance trail across the 4000m peaks in Italy's Valle d'Aosta, via the 330km and 24,000m elevation gain course, have until Saturday 17 September to complete the race.

Oliviero Bosatelli, Oli Bosa for his fans, set the Tor on fire and extinguished his opponents. It was inevitable. He is a fireman. The athlete, the Giant actually, who lives in Gandino 25 km from Bergamo, went into overdrive at Cogne after 106 kilometres and kept the pace from there. “At full pelt” as his colleagues said, as they arrived from Bergamo, almost with wailing sirens.

The 47year-old athlete from Lombardy, nicknamed “Popeye”, crossed the finish line in Via Roma in the heart of Courmayeur, after completing the race in 75 hours and 10 minutes. Not bad at all, considering the 330km distance and 24,000 meter vertical height gain. More than a bulldozer, he resembled a Formula 1 racing car.

As we write the trailer racing for second place is still far away, circa 5 hours. However Oscar Perez is still one of the most accomplished mountain runners. He will stand on the podium for the third time (one victory and two second places). Spain proved fun and flexed muscles, since three Spaniards are among the top five. In addition to Perez, Julio Cernuda Aldecoa and Pablo Criado are expected to cross the finish line soon. And what about sixth place? A standing ovation and hats off as it's a woman, and what a woman: Lisa Borzani, 36-years old, from padua, who has already placed second twice, and is on course for victory later today.

As of last night more than 100.000 fan followed Oliviero step by step on the Tor Des Géants social networks. Moreover, a lot of people came to cheer him across the finishing line in Courmayeur.
