With the cold comes snow, ice and... the Ice Climbing World Cup 2013 which is comprised of five stages this season. The circuit kicks off in January with a visit to Cheongsong in South Korea, followed immediately afterwards by the usual stage in Switzerland's Saas-Fee. At the end of January the World Cup travels to Italy, more precisely to Rabenstein which after years of hard work and successes has now taken the beautiful, well-deserved step forward. February sees the penultimate stage in Romania's Busteni, while the tour draws to a close at the end of March with in Russia's Kirov.
CALENDAR UIAA ICE CLIMBING WORLD CUP 2013
Cheongsong, South Korea (12 - 13/01/2013): World Cup (Lead & Speed) & World Championship (Lead)
Saas-Fee, Switzerland (18 - 19/01/2013): World Cup (Lead & Speed)
Rabenstein, Italy (26 - 27/01/2013): World Cup (Lead & Speed)
Busteni, Romania (7 - 9/02/ 2013): World Cup (Lead & Speed)
Kirov, Russia (8 - 10/03/2013): World Cup (Lead & Speed) & World Championship (Speed)
Each stage will host both the Lead and Speed, and it's worth noting that Cheongsong also acts as the decider for the World Championship Lead title. South Korea is an all-important start therefore for all those eyeing this title, while the vertical sprinters can take a breather: their Speed title fight will be decided at the end of the season at Kirov in Russia.
