Bouldering World Cup 2001, Chamonix, the results
Daniel Andrada and Sandrine Levet win the second stage of the Bouldering World Cup 2001 at Chamonix
16/07/2001 There was nothing doing on Sunday at Chamonix for the Final of the second stage of the Bouldering World Cup 2001. The rain, as forcast, set in and forced the organisers to cancel the Final. Saturdays Qualification was taken as the basis for the overall result and birthday-boy Daniel Andrada from Spain was therefore declared winner of the mens event, while Sandrine Levet from France won the womens event. The result comes as no great surprise as both athletes are well-established at the top of this sport, as Levet won the World Cup title last year and Andrada placed fifth. In the mens event three Frenchmen, Frédéric Tuscan, Jérôme Meyer and Jean Baptiste Jourjon placed second, third and fourth respectively, while Mauro Calibani from Italy placed fifth, guaranteeing him second place in the provisional ranking, in between Jérôme Meyer (1st) and Daniel Andrada (3rd). Levets victory confirms her excellent second place in Gap a fortnight ago and makes her current leader in the provisional ranking ahead of Corinne Theroux, 2nd here in Chamonix. Olga Bibik placed 3rd, Renata Piszczek 4th and Elena Choumilova 5th. The third stage of Bouldering World Cup 2001 will be held in Munich this weekend.
