After having suspended the Moscow stage of the Speed and Boulder World Cup 2022 as a result of the Ukraine conflict, the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) has now announced that stage has now been rescheduled to take place in Brixen, Italy from 10 to 12 June 2022.

Finding a replacement host in such a short space of time is no mean feat and is a great result for Brixen that has previously hosted numerous Italian Cups and also the 2019 European Youth Boulder Championships. Ernesto Scarperi, Vice President of the Italian Federation of Sport Climbing (FASI), stated "The Italian Climbing welcomed with great enthusiasm the announcement of the IFSC Boulder World Cup taking place in Brixen. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the local organisers, who made the application happen in a very short time. With the state of the art Climbing Center in Brixen, and the international experience gained in the past few years, I am confident that the event will be a great success. My sincere appreciation also goes to FASI President Davide Battistella, who supported this initiative from the very beginning, and helped us in bringing the IFSC World Cup back in Italy after many years."

While nearby Arco has been a long-standing fixture in the international Speed and Lead calendar, the last IFSC Boulder World Cup to take place in Italy dates back to Milan 2011.

With regard to the Russian - Ukraine conflict, in line with recommendations issued by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the implications of the war the IFSC suspended all Russian and Belarusian athletes and team officials from IFSC competitions. In its 4th of March press release the IFSC stated "The IFSC strongly condemns the unprovoked Russian invasion of the Ukraine and the support of these acts of violence by Belarus. The IFSC firmly stands with the international community in support of all efforts aimed at rapidly restoring peace in Ukraine and safety for the Ukrainian people."
