After about 40 attempts spread out over three years of efforts, on 26 June 2006 Sonnie Trotter made the first free ascent of Cobra Crack at the Cirque of the Uncrackables above Squamish in Canada. Originally ascended with A2 aid by Squamish local Peter Croft in the 1980’s, the overhanging, 30m high finger crack foiled the attempts of many of the world’s best, including Swissman Didier Berthod, until 27-year-old Trotter completed what at the time hailed as the hardest pure crack climb in the world. The Canadian has now released old footage of the ascent and line that has inspired generations.
