At the start of June Rikardo Otegi freed "Iñi Ameriketan”, one of Spain's hardest, tentatively grading it 9a.

This extremely overhanging and completely natural route follows a line through the Cueva de Baltzola, in our news recently for Josune Bereziartu's repeat of “La travesia”.

No staranger to hard redpoints, over the last few years the 34 year-old has quietly repeated and made first ascents of some of the hardest routes in Spain, France, Italy and America, climbing up to 8a+ boulder, 8b onsight and redpointing twelve routes graded 8c or harder.
