New climb on Monte Monaco in Sicily by Paweł Zieliński

Paweł Zieliński has made the first ascent of 'Forza di Polacco', the 170m multipitch he established rope solo on Monte Monaco next to San Vito Lo Capo in Sicily, Italy.

Polish climber Paweł Zieliński has made the first ascent of a 170m multipitch on Monte Monaco close to San Vito Lo Capo in Sicily, Italy. Speaking to planetmountain, he explained "I opened the route solo and it took me about 5 days. I bolted part of the route on lead and part of it from rappel. The route goes along a beautiful, overhanging pillar and is fully equipped with bolts and belays."

During the first free ascent, Zieliński was accompanied by Piotr Szpak and on that day he also opened the last pitch of the route, ground-up. On the same day, he also completed this pitch free. A 350m grade III scramble leads to the summit of the mountain, reached by Zieliński and Szpak and s at 6:30 p.m.. At 8:00 p.m. "we were already happily eating pizza in San Vito."
