Melloblocco 2006, all in Val di Mello
Melloblocco third edition, one can literally feel the anticipation grow. The classic and unmissable 3rd Melloblocco, or rather, the motley coloured bouldering meet in Val di Mello, is less than 40 days away and will be held on 6-7 May 2006
Melloblocco third edition, one can literally feel the anticipation grow. The classic and unmissable 3rd Melloblocco, or rather, the motley coloured bouldering meet in Val di Mello, is less than 40 days away. 40 days, some may think, are a fair few... there's still plenty of time to talk about it, to register, to think about going there and not missing the event. But if you give in to hidden desires then it seems as if this rendez-vu is just around the corner, the wish to be there is increases insistently. It's not by chance therefore that more than 600 people have already registered for the event via the official website melloblocco.it. Sane insanity, by the looks of things. Perhaps it's due to this spring which seems to want to explode from one moment to the next, but the fact of the matter is the following: people want breathe fresh air, lie down on luscious green fields, admire enormous granite walls and infinite skies, listen to the gushing of the mountain streams, and climb the smooth boulders. They want something else too; to meet up with old friends and new, to climb loads or just a little, to say to each other: "I'd never have believed that there would be so many of us, and yet we're all so calm and relaxed." And some also want to listen to some music (at the live concert on Saturday evening at the Centro Polifunzionale), wander aimlessly beer in hand, listen to (omnipresent) climbing stories, dream of future projects... in short, they want the Val di Mello and the Melloblocco. It will be like the first time, discovery, it'll be like the second time last year, amazement and tranquillity, it' be all this and more in 2006. The strength lies in the desire to have fun on the multitude of boulders. And this year there are some new things lying in store... MELLOBLOCCO 2006 News: Melloblocco, World Cup Boulder Rovereto, route setters The Lombardy Mountain Guides organising the event have recently announced a joint venture between the Melloblocco and the Rovereto Bouldering World Cup which will take place in Rovereto, N. Italy, from 12-14 May. The World Cup route setters Mario Prinoth and Loris Manzana will work side by side with masterful Jackie Godoffe and the mountain guides to set the boulders in the valley. The formula of the event will remain the same as the tried-and-tested formula of the previous editions. The event formula is the same as the tried and tested formula of the past editions. There will be more than 400 boulder problems from 4a-8b to choose from on the enormous boulders dotted throughout splendid Val di Mello. New problems in an entirely new area located deep within the valley will be added to the old problems from past editions, and each contestant will receive a map of the area with the free "competition pack". Prize money will be awarded to the hardest problems (6 reserved for men and 4 for women) while all those taking part in the Melloblocco are eligible for the tombola prize draw. Participants can find accommodation in the many hotels or campsites in the area. Maximum care and attention for Mother Nature and her valley. Once again the organisers ask all participants to fully respect the valley. And once again we have to say that this has never been a problem at the Melloblocco. As every year the shuttle bus service will transport participants into the valley, but this year the valley is completely sealed off to private cars. This shouldn't be a problem: the walk up to the boulders is breathtakingly beautiful and not to be missed!
